OK...surgery went well, what a relief!!!!!!!
We had to be at the hospital at 7:00 this morning and her surgery actually started around 9:30. Anais was pretty happy and patient while waiting for the doctors to be ready for her. Dr Walker (her neurosurgeon) came and talked to us before the surgery. We are so thankful to have found such a good medical team!! It was hard for us when they had to take her back to the Operating Room, saying bye to her was not fun! The surgery lasted about 2 hours. During that time, we went down to the cafeteria to have breakfast, made a couple phone calls and then went up to the waiting area. The waiting was probably the hardest part! Around 11:30, Dr Walker came to tell us that the surgery went well and was pretty happy with how everything went. He did say that her foramen magnum was VERY tight and that it was absolutely necessary for her to have the surgery. After that, she was transferred to the ICU where she will stay until tomorrow, maybe longer depending on how she does. When we saw her, she was pretty out of it from all the drugs they gave her. She is on morphine to avoid any discomfort. So far she is doing ok. They have her on a ventilator out of precaution until tomorrow but the nurse said that she was doing most of the breathing herself...what a strong little girl!
We came home to spend a little time with Sam and put her in bed and then we will go back to the hospital tonight. I just wanted to keep everyone updated. I also wanted to thank all of you...family, friends, fellow bloggers! You guys have been wonderful to us, thank you for all the supportive calls, emails, text messages you have sent us! Your support means the world to us.
I will leave you guys with a couple pictures we took today.
Here is Anais and I right before her surgery. As you can see she was pretty happy.
Here she is right after at the NICU. Her nurse was amazing, she did not leave her side for a second and was so nice to us! Thank you Bonnie!
Here is her incision.

Alex & Jeff, I'm Suzanne's mom Cindy. I just wanted to let you know that we are so thankful and happy for you that all went well yesterday. You have been in our thoughts and prayers and we will continue to pray for a speedy recovery. This baby is so beautiful.
I'm Suzanne's sister, she shared your blog with us as well as stories of her adorable nieces. I can't imagine how terrifying it would be to send your tiny baby off for surgery... I'm glad everything has gone so well, your family is definitely in our thoughts! Best of luck!
You and Anais looked great and so relaxed before surgery. You are one strong woman! I'm glad everything went well. I will keep Anais in my thoughts as she recovers.
Alex and Jeff-
Thanks so much for sharing your blog with us. It is nice to be able to catch up on things this way when it can be so hard to keep in touch with all the extended family. Your girls are truly adorable. We're glad the surgery went well and along with you hope for a quick recovery.
